Condo Developer Asking $110 Million for Manhattan Penthouse

Until 1930, the Woolworth Building was once famous for being the world’s tallest building. Now it is looking to recapture some of that lost fame.  According to BusinessWeek, developers are seeking $110 million for the penthouse apartment that sits at the top of the 58-story building. Jonathan Miller, president of appraiser Miller Samuel Inc., has been reported as saying that it is the highest price ever asked for in  downtown Manhattan. Though the luxury housing markets has been up he noted, the price reflects the history of the building and the apartment.

The top 34 floors of the building will all be getting make overs, with asking prices for apartments comparable to Midtown skyscrapers on the edge Central Park. If you’re interested in purchasing an apartment call your real estate broker and let them know, the units are set to go on sale in the fall. The move in date is scheduled to be in 2016. The starting price is $3.5 million for a roughly 1,200 square foot condo. There are also three other units besides the penthouse that are listed for more than $20 million.

The piece de resistance though is the penthouse of course. It is nine stories that includes four bedrooms, a private elevator, a great room, a wine cellar and a 584 square foot rooftop terrace. But at a price this high, it is a luxury that very few are able to afford. Though the asking price is $110 million, even those with money might not buy it. It is an exorbitant amount of money, so it shouldn’t be that surprising if the asking price drops. But to whomever does end up buying it, we’d love to take a tour.
