Elyakim Libman: Israel Unearths Remains of Man Believed to be Hamas Captive
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have confirmed that one of the hostages believed to have been taken by Hamas on October 7th has been declared dead after his body was discovered in Israel.
Elyakim Libman, who was working as a security guard at the Nova festival during the time of the attack, was identified through an extensive investigation conducted by the IDF, Israel Police, and the National Institute of Forensic Medicine.
According to reports, Libman’s remains were mistakenly buried alongside another victim of the festival.
During the attack, Libman reportedly remained behind for hours, providing assistance to other wounded individuals. His father, Eliyahu, shared on Facebook that another guard informed him of his son’s efforts to rescue others before attempting to flee. Libman was last seen aiding two severely injured women.
The IDF statement informed Libman’s family that he was “murdered in the October 7th massacre” perpetrated by Hamas.
The attack on October 7th resulted in approximately 1,200 casualties, with over 360 of them being attendees of the festival. Despite ongoing efforts, approximately 130 hostages, out of the more than 250 kidnapped by Hamas, remain unaccounted for. It is estimated that at least 34 of these hostages have died, while the others have been released or rescued.
Additionally, the subsequent Israeli offensive in Gaza following the attack has led to over 34,600 casualties, according to the Hamas-run health ministry.
