Any customer who purchases a cold, handcrafted beverage, such as an iced coffee or one of its new energy drinks, on Wednesday will receive a complimentary straw that can be reused and comes in a variety of brilliantly colored flavors. At Starbucks, the offer is a component of the company’s larger attempts to become more environmentally responsible and, presumably, enhance sales.

While supplies last, the straws are available in the United States of America and Canada. Additionally, they can be distributed at the company’s cafés and on orders placed through third-party applications like Uber Eats, DoorDash, and Grubhub.

According to Starbucks, the reusable straws are “compatible with the lid of the Starbucks cold cup and with the majority of the available reusable Starbucks cold cups.” In the year 2020, its establishments began offering biodegradable straws with “sippy cup” covers in place of the disposable plastic straws that were introduced in the previous year.

The Chief Executive Officer of Starbucks, Laxman Narasimhan, has made sustainability a primary area of attention. The chain is also introducing new cold cups that, in comparison to the models that are already available, use up to twenty percent less plastic.

In an effort to cut waste and carbon emissions in half by the year 2030, the cups are a component of the company’s ongoing sustainability efforts. As is the case with other large corporations, the chain has stated that it intends to reduce its reliance on plastic due to the fact that the majority of the material is derived from fossil fuels.
