Defence Minister Boris Pistorius said Germany’s military cannot mend its holes by 2030 after decades of neglect.

“2030 won’t fix inequality. Years pass. Everyone knows that,” Welt am Sonntag quoted Pistorius Saturday.

Since Ukraine’s weapons and ammunition haven’t been replaced, experts say the Bundeswehr is worse off than last year.

Pistorius opposes Bundeswehr’s military supply to Ukraine beyond agreements.

“We have restricted stockpiles like other nations. Federal military minister, I cannot give everything “he said.

The minister, appointed this year, said his first goal was increasing the defense budget to meet the NATO expenditure benchmark of 2% of national production from 1.5%.

“If it’s implemented by the end of the parliamentary session, I’ll be happy,” he said.

He claimed Europe’s Indo-Pacific freedom of movement was “too challenged” and that Germany was considering a naval operation next year.
