Indonesian state utility Perusahaan Listrik Negara [RIC:RIC: PLNEG.UL] requested $700 million to erect a 200-megawatt (MW) solar panel to replace diesel power generators.

The idea is part of its 2060 goal of net zero carbon emissions. Between 2021 and 2030, PLN plans to deploy 4.68 GW of solar panels.
Evy Haryadi, the company’s director, said the 200 MW solar panel is the first step towards replacing 1 GW of diesel power plants with solar. However, didn’t give a timeline for the first phase.

Under the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP), a coalition of countries has given $20 billion in public and private investment to help Indonesia switch to cleaner energy.

Edo Mahendra, president of Indonesia’s JETP Secretariat, said that PLN’s intention to switch from diesel power to renewables would be a pilot initiative under JETP.
