Two sources said BlackRock (BLK.N), the world’s largest asset manager, has selected Giovanni Sandri, its current head of Italy, as head of southern Europe, encompassing Spain, Portugal, Greece, and Israel.

BlackRock’s Germany-Switzerland, France-Belgium-Luxembourg, and Nordic regional hubs inspired the southern Europe cluster.
One insider said the newly created southern European region employs 200 people and manages 400 billion euros.

The sources said that the regional organization helps corporate development and internal representation by coordinating across countries.
