Before meeting with Prime Minister Rishi Sunak on Thursday, Japanese companies pledged roughly 18 billion pounds ($23 billion) in Britain, including offshore wind power and other renewable energy projects.

Sunak will meet business executives in Japan for a Group of Seven conferences as Britain prepares to join a trans-Pacific trade treaty with Japan and Australia.
Sunak’s administration said Marubeni Corporation (8002.T) and Sumitomo Electric Industries (5802.T) agreed to invest in Britain at the conference.

Marubeni, a Japanese trading corporation, had declared its desire to sign a deal with the government to spend around 10 billion pounds in Britain alongside partners over the next ten years.

The statement indicated other corporations planned property investments.
