In the latest show of support for Moscow, North Korean official media weighed in on Saturday on suspicions that Western nations were engaged in blasts that damaged Russia’s undersea Nord Stream gas pipelines last year.

Russia accused the West of blasting pipelines in September and urged an international probe. Western officials deny the claims.

International affairs analyst An Chol Hyok supported Russian calls for an impartial probe, saying the world needs to be aware of the “vicious coerciveness, war and conspiracy operations of the United States” in a KCNA piece.

Sweden and Denmark, whose exclusive economic zones the explosions happened in, have declared the ruptures were sabotage but have not identified the perpetrator.

Since Russia invaded Ukraine a year ago, North Korea has officially endorsed Moscow’s purported annexation of regions of Ukraine, which other countries have rejected.

The US has accused North Korea of arming Russia. Pyongyang and Russia deny it.

Reuters said the burst Nord Stream pipes would be secured and mothballed.
