Peter Baldwin is an alumnus of the popular Harvard School of Business. He is an entrepreneur and a businessman interested in solving problems that affect modern society. Peter Baldwin runs his company Birddogs which deals with the manufacture of high-quality underpants for men.

I was born and raised in New York, US. My interest in business began when I was still a teenager. I could accompany my mother to the market every weekend for house shopping. I learned a lot from different sellers, vendors, and even buyers. Although I was a kid, my eye for business was very sharp.

After high school, I dreamed about Harvard, but I couldn’t join the university directly. So I took two courses, Economics and Mechanical Engineering, at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Combining business and engineering was tough, but I was very dedicated to both of them. Finally, I got my certificates in 2006.

Immediately, I was absorbed by Mars & Co company as an associate consultant. My role was to advise clients about the best ways to increase their profit margin in startups or organizations. It gave me some experience. It was a learning process of the reality from what we had studied in books. One year later, I felt like I was ready to go back to digest more information in the business schools.

So I applied to Harvard Business School for a master’s in Business Administration. The main aim of studying for an MBA was to run my business in the future. In between my studies, I worked as an Associate Venture capital at Greenhill Co. I supported the company for almost nine months with data analysis, execution, and software outsourcing. In 2010 I graduated with the best GPA ever.

Sometimes getting a master’s increases your chances of being employed. For example, I secured a full-time job at IBM, New York branch as Sales Manager in Legal & Compliance Software Solution Business Unit. I chaired a sales department to ensure the execution of completed software gets to their market within the recommended time. Furthermore, I was acting like a middleman between clients and the developers.

I am grateful for what I achieved with IBM. Working with smart brains to generate solutions to our society sounded good. During that period, I saved and invested a lot. Finally, I had something in mind that I wanted to work on.

In 2014, I left IBM to focus on my startup. It has been eight years now since I set up Birddogs. The company deals with the manufacture of shorts with built-in underwear. The inner linen is thick, which makes one comfortable. We run everything online, and I am very thankful for the traffic we receive daily.

I got an invitation on the Shark Tank to tell more about my business to secure some capital ventures that could support me. However, the expectation was far away from reality. Some of the panelists saw potential in business. Others felt like I was wasting their time. At this point, I had thick skin, and little discouragement could not push me back. Many people might think that I hate Mark Cuban, I don’t. It’s just that we are not on good terms.

We have flourished the Birddogs. For the first three years, I was re-investing any small profit we got. Currently, we have thousands of recurring customers. After every three months, we always make sure there is a new product in the market. Recently, we just designed gym pant that goes at $95. You can find it on our website.

I have collaborated with big brands like the Pro Sports Giao, Hit Inspirite Imp, and Hono Housewares Ltd. These companies have generated a lot of sales since the year began. But, together with my board, we are still looking for more retail shops.

On many occasions, I get to read people’s reviews, and I feel happy. Some talk of the underpants providing a comfortable environment and support simultaneously. There is a lot of freedom since it sounds like you have worn nothing inside. We use many different light materials to provide the best quality pants.

To a younger Peter Baldwin, you will struggle at some point in life. People can talk negatively about what you are doing. But always remind yourself the reason why you started it. Something that drove you to work on your idea should motivate you. Hitting your goal means success. To celebrate the little success, you achieve.
