SpaceX received a long-awaited authorization from the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration on Friday to launch its Starship rocket into orbit for the first time.
“After a comprehensive license evaluation process, the FAA determined SpaceX met all safety, environmental, policy, payload, airspace integration and financial responsibility requirements,” the FAA announced Friday. The license is good for five years.
SpaceX’s Starbase rocket facility in Boca Chica, Texas, will launch on Monday, April 17, according to Twitter. Early Friday regulatory notices indicate liftoff might occur between 5:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. Central time.
