George Talley never thought he would see his car again after it was stolen from Jefferson Ave. in Detroit. It was not until a phone call from AAA on June 13 that he learned of his rediscovered car—33 years after it was stolen. His 1979 Chevrolet Corvette was an item of theft in 1981, and it was recently located in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, according to the Associated Press.

The 71-year-old man was ecstatic to hear that his car was ready and waiting for him.

“It was a lucky day to hear that my car had been found,” Talley said, according to USA Today. “They told me it was running, had 47,000 miles on it and was ready for me to pick up!”

General Motors Product Development Executive Vice President Mark Reuss was the man behind the whole setup. “George’s story brought a smile to my face. As a longtime Corvette owner myself, I know the passion the car inspires. I also knew that car belonged home in Detroit, with its rightful owner, and we could make that happen,” Reuss told the Associated Press.

Talley may be on cloud nine for quite some time. He is a proud owner of several Corvettes, but GM reports the ’79 model is his favorite, according to The Detroit Bureau. Now, there’s nothing that stands between Talley and his beloved vehicle except the open road.

Watch out, world—Talley has 33 years of driving to make up for.
