Donald Trump’s youngest son, Barron Trump, contacted UK police after witnessing what he believed was an assault on a woman in London during a video call, a court has heard.
Barron Trump, 19, told police that he was in the United States when he saw the incident unfold and asked two friends to call 999 on his behalf. The alleged incident took place in January 2025.
The disclosure was made during the trial of Matvei Rumiantsev, 22, at Snaresbrook Crown Court. Rumiantsev denies charges including assault occasioning actual bodily harm, two counts of rape, intentional strangulation, and perverting the course of justice by allegedly pressuring the woman to withdraw her complaints. The alleged victim cannot be identified for legal reasons.
According to court evidence, Trump placed a video call to the woman on 18 January. Shortly after, he contacted emergency services, telling the operator that a girl he knew was being beaten. In a transcript released by the Crown Prosecution Service, he said the incident had occurred minutes earlier and described it as an emergency.
When asked how he knew the woman, Trump said he had met her on social media and questioned the relevance of the details. The operator responded by asking him to answer the questions directly.
Police later requested a witness statement from Trump. In an email dated 2 May, he said what he saw was brief but concerning. He said the call was unexpectedly answered by a shirtless man with dark hair, before the view switched to the woman crying and being hit. He estimated the entire interaction lasted between five and seven seconds.
Trump said he did not have direct evidence of the assault beyond what he saw on the call, but added that the woman, whom he described as very close to him, had told him she had been experiencing difficulties with the man for some time.
Prosecutors allege that Rumiantsev strangled the woman on the evening of 17 January. She later contacted police, and the defendant was arrested the following morning. The charges relate to incidents alleged to have occurred between November 2024 and January 2025.
Giving evidence, Rumiantsev told jurors that he and the woman had been drinking together and had consensual sex. He said an argument later broke out and described the woman as hysterical. He claimed he held her arms in self-defence to stop her from hitting him.
Rumiantsev told the court that the woman’s phone rang during the argument and showed a video call from Barron Trump. He said he answered the call in the hope that the woman would calm down in front of someone else.
The defendant also told the court that he became aware of the woman’s friendship with Trump in October 2024 and admitted feeling upset about their communication, though he denied being controlling. He said tensions had previously arisen between him and the woman in November 2024.
The trial is ongoing.
