Pink Himalayan salt is the most expensive salt in the world. It has a number of uses in various industries. The process of mining is ambiguous and costs a lot.

The rock salt cost almost 20 times the normal table salt. A single kilogram costs almost 10 dollars. The amount of energy and time spent in the retrieval of the salt is expensive. In addition to that, it is found only in a few places in the world, Pakistan.

The hard extraction process of Pink Himalayan Salt

The extraction of the normal table salt takes place in simple steps. A driller digs inside the sea bed and pumps the water outside. The remaining small amounts of water evaporate, and the salt crystals remain as a solid. It’s transported to the factory for further purification. Then there is the addition of chemicals to make it have a nice flavor before packing in papers, ready for sale.

Likewise, sea salt has an almost similar process. Evaporation of water takes place. The remaining solid is mined by crushing. Then, loaded on a vehicle for further processing in the industry.

Let us take a walk at how this pink Himalayan salt gets mined. Hundreds of feet mean drilling is the only possible way to harvest. After which crushing takes place. This is mainly done by human beings using hard tools with their bare hands. The halite gets split into minor pieces. Lastly, they are collected together, and the tractor loads them onto large trucks for transportation.

Mineral location

Pakistan is a major producer earning a good foreign income through the importation of salt. In particular, the country produces 350 tonnes of Himalayan pink salt yearly. The distance from the mined area to the industry is far away.

The price rises when it comes to its uses. It is scientifically proven that pink Himalayan salt contains almost 84 different minerals. The combination of variety f minerals gives it a pink color. It contains approximately 2% of salt and 98% of sodium chloride. This report is from Rhiannon Lambert, a Nutritionist who talks to Business Insider.

Sometimes commonly called pure salt. It reduces dehydration in our bodies.
