Youtube is bringing a few changes to its website soon, including a feature that allows users to donate money directly to their favorite channels. The Guardian reported that other crowdfunding websites, especially Patreon, should take note of that.

According to NBC News, people who earn money from Youtube usually do so in two ways: advertising and fan funding. Advertising happens on the Youtube website itself, but fan funding is usually done outside of Youtube, through websites like PayPal. By adding a crowdfunding feature to the site, Youtube will be able to keep all of their users on their own website.
The Guardian said there is no concrete date released by Youtube, but the crowdfunding feature will be tested soon with certain channels in the U.S., Mexico, Japan and Australia.
In addition to the crowdfunding feature, Youtube will also be creating a mobile app that includes new comment management and a way to earn money for eligible cover songs.
