Canada announced Thursday it would send a military aircraft to Japan to bolster UN Security Council sanctions on North Korea.
Anita Anand, Canadian Defense Minister, announced CP-140 Aurora deployment.
The Canadian government said the CP-140 Aurora would monitor ship-to-ship gasoline transfers and other Security Council-banned goods for six weeks.
Since 2006, the UN has sanctioned North Korea for its missile and nuclear programs.
North Korea’s state media said that Kim Jong Un tested a nuclear-capable underwater attack drone late in March, warning South Korea and the U.S. to cease military drills.
China and Russia also accuse US-South Korean military drills of aggravating Pyongyang. America has accused China and Moscow of encouraging North Korea by protecting it from sanctions.
Pyongyang has split the Security Council for years. The veto powers of Russia, China, the US, Britain, and France want fewer sanctions.
