Nissan Motor Co (7201.T) announced Wednesday that it will not fill Ashwani Gupta’s former COO role under a new management structure.

It added other executives would take on operations chief duties.

Manufacturing and supply chain management executive vice president Hideyuki Sakamoto will oversee buying. CFO Stephen Ma will oversee operations performance.

“In response to constantly evolving market conditions, we will introduce a flatter and agile leadership structure, which will further empower regional and functional leadership,” Nissan CEO Makoto Uchida said.

Nissan announced earlier this month that Gupta would depart the Japanese automaker to pursue other possibilities. He left Nissan Tuesday.

According to Reuters, Japan’s No.3 automaker probes Uchida’s Gupta monitoring.

Nissan is finalizing a major reset of its decades-old cooperation with Renault SA (RENA.PA).

According to Reuters, Gupta disagreed with Uchida’s eagerness to finish Renault discussions fast and advised caution over transaction conditions.
