On Tuesday, the Netherlands Interior Ministry said TikTok would soon be banned on official phones.

The Dutch ministry barred “countries with an active cyberprogram geared against the Netherlands or Dutch interests” apps on government-issued phones.

ByteDance owns short-form video hosting services TikTok and Douyin. It hosts 3–10-minute user-submitted videos. TikTok and Douyin are now famous worldwide.

Last month, the Dutch intelligence agency AIVD labeled China, Russia, Iran, and North Korea espionage-threatening cyber actors.

Belgium’s federal government outlawed TikTok last month.
