There is currently a plethora of options for dating via apps or the internet. There’s tinder, match.com, OKCupid, Grouper, etc. With so many options, it’s difficult to choose one. Nonetheless, a new dating site is about to take a completely new, perhaps revolutionary approach to this trend.

“Instant Chemistry” is a Toronto based biotech startup that claims it can ensure the perfect match, or as close to perfect as romance can get. The company’s slogan is “Revealing the Science of Attraction”. This site uses genetic analysis, collecting cheek swabs, and self-assessed psychological tests to find a match.

Instant Chemistry is partnering up with “SingldOut”, another dating website. They will mail out at-home DNA tests and personality tests to their subscribers for completion. After these tests have been sent back, SingldOut uses analysis to find an ideal soul mate. Additionally, the site writes an extensive prediction of what the relationship with the prospective partner would be like. The testing can range in price from 100 to a few hundred dollars, depending how extensively the person wants to be tested.

Dr. Sara Seabrooke, Chief officer of Instant Chemistry, and Carmelia Ray, Chief Marketing Officer and Matchmaking Expert commented on the new site, saying, “Just knowing you are compatible genetically does not mean you truly know the person. It still takes time to get to know someone. Using Instant Chemistry helps you save time by potentially not investing it on someone who you will not be compatible with (based on attraction and genetics) in the long term. Having more insight and information about your potential partner allows you to make better relationship choices. You can’t take the romance out of the dating and courting process. It’s going to be there or not. Again, the fact that two people are genetically compatible only addresses compatibility in that key area of their life. Other factors to consider would be matching attitudes, values, goals, lifestyle, religion etc.”

The DNA-matching aspect of this process measures the variance of human leukocyte antigens (HLA’s). HLA’s are what an individual’s immune system is composed of. Interestingly, they base their pairings off of the theory that people are most compatible with people who have opposite HLA’s, as this mix would be the most evolutionarily beneficial.

Could this Instant Chemistry, which utilizes the extreme progress that society has made in the fields of chemistry and psychology, completely change the way we establish relationships?
