According to sources, after remedy talks with the EU watchdog failed, Microsoft (MSFT.O) may face an EU antitrust inquiry in the coming months.

In 2020, Salesforce-owned (CRM.N) workspace messaging app Slack filed a complaint against Microsoft, fined 2.2 billion euros ($2.4 billion) in the previous decade for violating EU competition rules by tying or bundling two or more products.

2017 Microsoft freed Teams for Office 365, replacing Skype for Business.

Slack claimed its rival unjustly incorporated office chat and video service Teams into Office.

Microsoft began talks with the European Commission last year to avoid a probe. An office without Teams was recently discounted.

The people said the European Commission wants a deeper price decrease than the U.S. software behemoth.

EU executive remained silent.

Microsoft spokesperson: “We continue to engage cooperatively with the Commission in its investigation and are open to pragmatic solutions that address its concerns and serve customers well.”
