On Saturday, a Berlin defense ministry official said Ukraine has requested Taurus cruise missiles, an air-launched weapon with a range of 500 kilometers (310 miles).
Germany received the request many days ago; the spokesperson confirmed Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung. However, she wouldn’t say if Germany sold Ukraine missiles.
Germany would follow Britain, which publicly supplied Kyiv with long-range cruise missiles in May.
The US has not supplied Ukraine with 297-km Army Tactical Missile System (ATACMS) missiles due to worries that Ukraine could attack inside Russia’s internationally recognized borders.
Western partners have provided shorter-range weaponry to Ukraine despite months of requests.
MBDA’s Taurus resembles Britain’s Storm Shadow.
It can destroy bunkers, high-value targets, personnel, and fuel depots behind the front lines.
