Enass Abo-Hamed is a technologist with a passion for conserving energy. She uses storage technologies and cheap hydrogen to make reliable and affordable green energy. H2GO is working on projects to build energy stores that can support institutions like schools, 100 houses, or a hospital.

In most cases, we experience electricity blackouts. Some have backups whenever they experience electricity losses, while others don’t have an option. The unreliable supply terminates a lot of processes in industries leading to loss.

Enass Abo-Hamed and her colleagues are working to change this situation. They aim to boost the use of renewable energies to protect the issue of climate change. Many industries are working towards implementing green energy. However, there is an imbalance and deficit in storage capacities.

I am a proud alumnus of Hebrew University, where I did my bachelor’s in chemistry before working on my master’s in Nanotechnology. Later, I joined Tsinghua University for a research program about advanced Nanotechnology. After that, I got a scholarship to study for my Ph.D. in Nanotechnology, hydrogen production, at the University of Cambridge. Finally, in 2014, I graduated and secured a job as a board member at Future Energy Leaders.

I got another offer to join Sustainable Interest Group as a chair-leader for the Engineering department. In addition, I have been a vice-chair at the European Commission since 2017. Women know how to multitask; I do handle all those jobs.

While doing my deep research in university, I came up with an efficient and safe hydrogen storage system project. However, I wasn’t sure if it could work on a large scale. Then, I realized how my project could change the world through my lecturers and friends. In addition, it could help to supply reliable, clean, and affordable power supplies.

While implementing the idea, I won several awards at Cambridge university. The World Economic Forum rewarded my creativity as a unique young scientist of the year. MIT also elected me as an innovator for future technologies and science.

My typical day starts very early. I will exercise up to 6:00 am before getting ready for my office, where I spend most of the time. Meditation is part of my daily activities too. I have a task management tool to remain focused on, and I respect the schedule.

As time goes by, the global warming effect keeps destroying the world. Some people are working hard to change this while others are just watching. At H2GO Power, we are developing zero-emission technologies. In addition, we want to use different technologies to store energy for a long duration. Another advantage is that our products are cheap compared to other competitors.

I use the sponge as a nanoparticle porous that can store and release hydrogen gas. Chemical hydrides and hydrolysis release hydrogen. The gas gets trapped inside the polymer framework. Then, it is transformed into heat and released later for use.

In addition to this, we have managed to manufacture a “plug and play energy unit” which can be transported to areas with deficit electricity. So I am sure they can reach different parts of the world like sub-Saharan Africa or Asia where people don’t possess electricity.

Despite our efforts to use green energy, we need government, policymakers, and investors to support us. We need to work together to reach as many customers as possible. Also, those boards must campaign against using non-renewable energy. Finally, they should create awareness of the importance of green energy on climatic change.

We need time and capital to develop a scalable production and cut some costs. However, if investors decide to venture into this business, we can do a lot. All in all, we should hold each other’s hand to campaign against the climatic change. Together, we can win the battle.
