Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC) reported record net income of NT$763.06 billion for the third quarter of 2026, as strong demand for advanced semiconductor technologies continued to drive growth. The company’s revenue reached NT$1.494 trillion, representing a 50.9% increase year over year, while net income rose 68.7%.
Announced on October 15, the results highlight the continued strength of the artificial intelligence market and the growing demand for advanced chips used in AI infrastructure. TSMC said strong demand for its leading-edge process technologies supported its quarterly performance.
Advanced Chip Technologies Drive Growth
TSMC’s latest results reflect sustained demand across its advanced manufacturing processes, particularly those used to produce increasingly sophisticated semiconductors.
Technologies at 7 nanometers and below accounted for 79% of the company’s wafer revenue during the third quarter. Its 2-nanometer process contributed 8%, while 3-nanometer technology accounted for 33%, 5-nanometer for 28% and 7-nanometer for 10%.
The company expects the momentum to continue into the fourth quarter, forecasting revenue between US$52.3 billion and US$54.3 billion. TSMC attributed its outlook to continued demand for leading-edge technologies and the ongoing ramp-up of its 2-nanometer manufacturing process.
AI Demand Creates Capacity Challenges
Despite its record financial performance, TSMC faces a significant challenge in meeting customer requirements. Chairman and Chief Executive Officer C.C. Wei said demand for artificial intelligence-related chips continues to exceed the company’s current supply capability.
TSMC is working to narrow the gap between demand and available production capacity while evaluating options to expand its manufacturing footprint. Discussions have included potential expansion beyond Arizona, including Texas, as well as the possibility of engaging with Elon Musk’s proposed Terafab project. However, the company has not announced a finalized Texas expansion plan or committed production capacity to a specific customer through these discussions.
The company’s latest earnings release does not announce a new factory or assign additional capacity to a named customer. Instead, its results and guidance point to continued demand strength alongside the longer-term challenge of expanding production to meet market needs.
TSMC’s performance provides a strong indication of continued investment in AI-related computing infrastructure. However, its overall revenue growth and capacity outlook do not guarantee chip availability, specific delivery timelines or pricing for individual chip designers, cloud providers or other customers.
As demand for advanced semiconductors continues to grow, the company’s ability to expand production will remain an important factor in how effectively the industry can meet the needs of the AI market.
